When believers in Corinth took sides—saying, “I follow Paul,” “I follow Apollos,” “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ”—the apostle Paul rebuked them by asking, “Is Christ divided?” (1 Cor. 1:11–13). Scripture also identifies jealousy, strife, factions, and divisions as marks of the flesh (1 Cor. 3:3–5; 2 Cor. 12:20; Gal. 5:20–21).Jesus prayed that all believers would be one (John 17:21–23), and Scripture teaches that all believers form a community with “one body and one Spirit,” “one Lord, one faith, one baptism” (Eph. 4:3–6).
